Aboridzinima i Srbima.
B. Wongar (Sreten Bozic) is an Australian author of
Serbian background. His Nuclear Trilogy published world-wide
deals with the impact of British nuclear testing in
Australia and the devastation caused on tribal Aborigines
and white Australians. An extract of the Trilogy is included
in Citanka for pupils of Grade 7 in Serbian Schools.
Mr Malcolm Fraser, Chairman, CARE Australia,
22 May 1999
"Dear Mr Fraser,
I have been following your interest in the fate of the
two CARE workers, Steve Pratt and Peter Wallace, currently
detained in Yugoslavia.
As you are aware, Yugoslavia is being subjected to
barbaric NATO bombing, which you yourself have criticised
for the loss of innocent civilian lives and destruction of
infrastructure essential for the life of the entire Yugoslav
population.
One should bear in mind however, that the bombs being
dropped on Serbia contain depleted uranium - lethal for many
generations not only for the people of Yugoslavia but the
much wider area of European neighboring countries including
the Adriatic and Aegean seas. Some of the uranium content
being used in NATO bombs came from Australia. As we
Australians know very well, the British are extremely
irresponsible when using their bombs. Here in Australia we
are left with a devastating legacy caused by British nuclear
testing, a legacy of poisoned land that almost wiped out our
Australian indigenous people and will remain with us for
many generations to come. This British criminal negligence
was fully revealed in the Australian Royal Commission of
1984 which found the British government responsible for
radioactive contamination of Australian land.
When campaigning for the release of your two CARE workers,
it might be wise, firstly, to appeal to the Australian
government to immediately impose a ban on the export of
Australian uranium to Britain and the United States, and
other NATO countries using this lethal mineral, and thus
save the Balkan area from further radioactive contamination.
After such humanitarian gesture, you might find that the
Yugoslav authorities will respond in kindness, and release
your CARE workers.
Yours faithfully,
B. Wongar"
